You know, we’re all one team here at Circle of Nerds. We love being a part of this legion of geek culture. A culture that accepts everyone looking to share their fandoms, throw down on a video game or cosplay their favorite characters. Most of all however, we love how this awesome community often rallies together to give back to those in need.
That being said, I’m sure we all can agree that one of the best things in the world is the laughter of a child. But, I’ll do you one better than that. How about the laughter of a child who’s in the hospital with an injury or illness, who’s feeling down and just really needs something to make him or her smile? Well, we here at the Circle of Nerds, we think putting smiles on the faces of children, especially sick or injured children, is probably one of the best things we can do.
In light of that, I’m excited to announce that the awesome organization known as Child’s Play is the Circle of Nerds charity of the month. Conceived and founded in 2003 by the awesome guys over at the ever-popular webcomic, Penny Arcade, Child’s Play is a charitable organization that donates toys and games to sick throughout the various children’s hospitals worldwide. Speaking through my personal experience, staying at a hospital can feel cold, anti-social and just downright depressing. Thankfully though, the Child’s Play organization works with various children’s hospitals to set up wish lists for children requesting video games, books, toys and movies. These donations are then used to provide their patients a way to escape their current situation for a time and just enjoy being a kid again. Since their beginning, I’m pleased say that geeks have come together through Child’s Play to donate over $44 million dollars’ worth of geeky happiness to these kids. They are an amazing organization and they make me proud that I’m a part of this great culture.
You can find out more by going to their website at www.childsplaycharity.org. Donations can be made on the website either through PayPal or by searching out your local children’s hospital on the interactive map and fulfilling an item on their Amazon wish list.
It’ll make you feel good and you’ll be spreading smiles across the faces of some children who need it most.
